Annual Review
A written internal review of the year, activity by activity, shared in part with partners and counterparties.
An annual review that doubles as a marketing document stops being useful as a budget input. We kept the budget input.
A principal, Kaelo Global
Kaelo Global writes an annual review every calendar year. It is an internal document in which each activity describes what was done, what was learned and what changes for the year ahead. The principals review it together, and it is shared in part with the partners and counterparties whose own work depends on understanding how the business is performing.
The Kaelo Global annual review is written to be used rather than admired. It is the document we set the next year's budget from, which is why it records the parts of the year that went badly as carefully as the parts that went well.
There is one version. What a banking partner reads is what the principals read, without a separate edit for outside eyes. Writing two versions of the same year is how a business starts believing the flattering one.
A narrative from each activity
Each activity writes a section on its year. Results are read against the operating plan, and what was learned is recorded and carried into the next year. The sections are written by the people who did the work, which makes them more useful and considerably harder to write.
A group narrative
A consolidated section written by the principals, covering priorities, governance and the structural decisions taken during the year.
Selective distribution
The review is shared in part with the partners who need it for their own work, such as a bank forming a view of the business. It is not published, and each disclosure is recorded.
A short public summary
A brief public summary is released each year, and it links to the fuller commentary in our insights archive.
What went wrong, written down
Work that did not go to plan is recorded with the reasons, because a review that only lists successes is of no use when the next budget is set.
Decisions carried forward
Each section ends with what changes next year, so the review can be read a year later as a list of commitments to check. The first thing the next review does is mark those commitments as kept, changed or abandoned, with the reason written down.
How it is governed
Written activity narratives
Each activity writes its section on what was done, what was learned and what changes. The principals who ran the year sign their own sections.
A group narrative from the principals
A consolidated narrative covering priorities, governance and the structural decisions taken during the year across the whole business.
Selective distribution
Shared in full with banking partners and counterparties whose work genuinely depends on understanding the business. Distribution is recorded, and the review is not public.
A public summary at year end
A short summary is released through the press and media centre, with links to insights for fuller commentary.
When to come to us
- 01You are a banking partner or counterparty and the review forms part of your annual checks.
- 02You are an auditor whose engagement includes access to the review.
- 03You are a long-standing supplier or partner whose relationship warrants documented annual context.
- 04You work with us and the review informs your own planning for the year ahead.
What we do not do
- Publishing the review. It is internal, and shared selectively by design.
- Writing it as a marketing document. It is the same document the principals read.
- Including figures that would not stand up to scrutiny. Every number has a documented source.
- Hiring an agency to produce it. The document is written inside the business, which keeps the voice honest.
A written record instead of a glossy report.
The annual review is a document we could be audited from. It is the same document we use to set the next year's budget.
One version, used inside and outside.
The version shared with banking partners is the version the principals reviewed. There is no separate marketing edit and no shorter version with the inconvenient parts removed.
Governance & policies
We share full policy documents with counterparties and regulators on request. Internal governance papers are not published on this site, and if you need one for due diligence, please ask us.
