What Kaelo does in this sector

A family office holds two things: the money and the operating businesses. We work only on the second. Governance of the companies a family actually runs, the process beneath a succession, and a public presence managed with deliberate restraint — that is the whole brief.

Most of what is written for family offices is about money. Ours is not. We advise the operating side of the family enterprise — the trading company, the distribution business, the brand that carries the family's name — on governance, process and communications. We do not manage money and we do not advise on where it should go; that boundary is stated in our first meeting and kept for as long as we work together.

Family-held operating companies fail in predictable ways: roles that were never written down, a founder who is at once chairman, chief buyer and final signatory, hired managers who cannot tell where their authority ends and the family's begins. We help draw those lines — written mandates, a meeting rhythm that actually holds, management reporting a principal will read rather than file. We run a private trading business ourselves; our textile lineage dates to 1989, and most of what we recommend we have first had to practise.

On succession we are deliberately narrow. The legal and tax structure of a handover belongs with your lawyers, and we will not pretend otherwise. Our part is the operational groundwork beneath it: documenting how the business actually runs while the founder is still there to be asked, separating what is process from what is one person's memory, and giving the next generation real roles with real accountability before any title arrives. A succession plan that exists only as a will is not a plan; it is a document waiting for a crisis.

Discretion is the working condition, not a feature. A family's name accrues search results whether or not anyone is managing them, and for families of standing, what is absent from the record matters as much as what is present. Our digital practice builds and maintains a deliberately quiet presence: the operating businesses findable and credible, the family visible exactly as much as it chooses to be, sensitive matters handled without press-release theatre. We publish no client names and no case studies; privacy is the credential.

The same instinct governs how we advise on applied AI. Family businesses are being sold tools that want private correspondence and financial records handed to third parties, and much of our counsel here is about what not to adopt. Where a tool earns its place — in sourcing, in document handling, in the back office — we help specify it with confidentiality as the first constraint rather than a setting to be found later.

We are honest about fit. If the family's operating business is in an industry we have not lived in, we will say so and, where we can, point you to someone better placed. What we bring is the perspective of principals who have kept a private trading business running since 1989, and who understand why a family would rather be respected than known.

Who does the work

This work spans two activities, coordinated by the Operating Council.

Kaelo's four activities answer to a single Operating Council that meets on a regular cadence. This sector draws on Activity 01 and Activity 06 together, so a client gets one coordinated view of the work.

Nothing on this page is a regulated offer or formal advice. Full registration and regulatory information is published on our Regulatory Disclosures.

Common questions

Do you manage family money or advise on where it should go?
No. We do not manage money, and we do not advise on where it should go. Our work is confined to the operating businesses a family owns and to how the family presents itself; the financial side of your office belongs with your bankers and licensed advisers, and we are deliberate about never blurring that line.
How do you handle confidentiality?
We are a small private firm in Dubai and we work principal-to-principal, so nothing is passed to a layer of juniors we cannot vouch for. We publish no client names, no case studies and no testimonials, and we will sign whatever confidentiality terms your counsel drafts. The absence of our clients from our marketing is the point, not a gap in it.
Can you work alongside our lawyers and accountants?
Yes, and we prefer to. On succession in particular the legal structure belongs with counsel; our part is the operational groundwork — documented process, prepared successors, an operating company that does not depend on one person's memory. We are used to being one voice among several and to keeping our advice inside its lane.
Will you take on any family that approaches you?
No. We advise on operating businesses in industries we have lived in — trade, textiles, consumer brands, and the marketing of each — and if yours sits outside that experience we will say so in the first conversation. A polite refusal early costs everyone less than a slow discovery that we were the wrong fit.
