At a glance
What it is
A wrong call on cloth is felt in the same quarter. That is a useful discipline to learn early.
A principal, Kaelo Global
The enterprise began as a textile trade in 1989 and has run continuously since. It is the reason our consultancy can speak to operators, and our marketing team can speak to people who move goods, because those claims rest on having done it in a business where a wrong call on cloth or a missed shipment is felt in the same quarter.
Textile trading since 1989 has taught the house a particular kind of care. Quality varies between lots from the same mill, shipping dates move, and a buyer who is let down remembers it for years. The habits that follow from that, such as checking before shipping and writing terms down, show up in how we run every other part of the business.
The desk has always been a trade instead of a factory. We buy cloth and sell it, and the skill sits in judgement about suppliers, quality and risk.
What's included
Five areas of scopeA trade, not a factory
We buy cloth and sell it, and we have never owned manufacturing plant. The distinction matters, because it puts the skill in sourcing judgement, quality assessment and taking a position, instead of in running production.
Long relationships
Several mill relationships have run for more than two decades. In a trade where quality varies between lots from the same supplier, continuity is worth more than a slightly better quoted price.
Judgement about cloth
Weight, handle, construction, finish and how a fabric behaves after washing and wearing. This is the knowledge that carries into the label the group runs.
Terms written down
Specifications, tolerances and delivery dates agreed in writing before production starts, which is how most disputes are avoided instead of settled.
Lessons that travel
The habits learned in trade, such as checking claims, pricing risk honestly and keeping promises modest, shape how we work in marketing and consultancy too.
How the work runs
Trade enquiries
Accepted by introduction, in writing, on long terms.
Questions about the history
Journalists and counterparties asking about the group's origins are answered in writing, and the press and media centre holds the published record.
When to come to us
- 01You are a mill or supplier whose capability fits what the desk buys.
- 02You are a buyer looking for a counterparty instead of a broker.
- 03You want to understand where the group's experience comes from before working with us.
What we do not do
- Publishing counterparty names, volumes or pricing.
- Acting as an agent for other companies. The desk trades on its own account.
- Claiming credit for the work the mills do. They make the cloth, and we buy, check and sell it.
